Dedicated in 1910, the 19th Indiana monument is located on the east side of Hagerstown Turnpike just south of the Cornfield. (see map)

19th Indina Infantry
4th Brigade, 1st Division, 1st Army Corps
Lieut. Col. Alois O. Bachman, Commanding
Until he fell mortally wounded
150 yards due East, occupied this ground at 2 p.m. September 17, 1862.
Loss, 13 killed, 58 wounded.
When 23 year old Lt. Colonel Bachman was mortally wounded, 19 year old Captain Dudley took command.
The 19th is also honored by a monument at Gettysburg.
